Incorrect accusation

Topic: A student, Ahmed Mohammed, is accused of making a bomb when, in fact, it isn’t anything more than a clock, like the teen said.

Title: Ahmed Mohamed, clock-making teen, transferring to another school

Source: CNN.com

Summary: Ahmed Mohammed, a 14-year-old boy, made a simple alarm clock to impress his teachers, but was accused of it being a bomb. With certain things the police have said, this crime is believed to be because of his race and religion. Despite the negative reaction from the school and police, Ahmed has gained thousands of supporters and is even meeting with the president. He’s also moving schools.

Reaction: I believe that his race and religion do a play a role in his arrest and accusation. If a caucasian person had brought a homemade clock, no one would have jumped to the conclusion of “oh no, it’s a BOMB!” They would have been cooed over for being smart and creative, not a potential threat! I am very angry over this event. This boy didn’t deserve to be interrogated. He didn’t deserve to be a suspect. He didn’t deserve being interrogated for a clock. The fact that he has thousands of supporters makes me happy, however. His intelligence needs to be recognized correctly.

Overpopulation could be people, planet problem

Article

Topic: World overpopulation and the results of it.

Source: CNN

World population is already a big problem, but in the coming years, it’s doomed to become worse. While there is already 1.3 billion people in China and 1.1 billion in India, which puts China as the most populated country of them all, India is theorized to have as many people as 1.8 billion by 2050, meaning they will top China. With the sheer amount of people, the earth won’t have enough of its most precious resource- water. We won’t be able to support the human race. Not only that, but our waste will become a huge problem. We won’t have anything to do with it. However, the problem mainly affects third world and developing countries.

I feel that this event is a real issue. The world is already over-crowded. The world already doesn’t have enough space. The world doesn’t have enough resources. This affects me because I’ll have to live in this future. This future where the world can literally NOT support the people and animals. It’s a devastating thought.

This is a world problem. It’s isn’t limited to the USA or India or China- its global overpopulation. It’ll hit the developing countries the worst, but the developed countries will still receive a couple broken bones at least. “When the water goes, the species goes,” Lawrence smith, the president of the Population Institute, said. The threat of human extinction is very real for the world.

Plan for Science Semester Project

Written Activity

I plan on making a word scramble that features the vocabulary of (11)(a), which includes: producer, consumer, predator, prey, parasite, host, and food web. On a second piece of paper I will list the vocabulary and definitions.

Written Evaluation

I will make a test in which the students will have to choose the correct word to fill in the blank.

“Hands-on” activity

I plan on doing a puppet show that will demonstrate the relationships between producer/consumer, predator/prey, and parasite/host within marine, freshwater, and terrestrial ecosystems. My back-up plan is to take a song and redo the lyrics to fit my objective.

Presentation

I will be doing a slide show featuring (11)(a) in this order: definitions, terrestrial ecosystems, marine ecosystems, and freshwater ecosystems.

“To An Athlete Dying Young” by A.E. Housman

” To An Athlete Dying Young” by A.E. Housman has a rhyme scheme of aabb and has 7 stanzas. It is an elegy about an athlete who dies young(hence, the title) and doesn’t get to outlive his glory. Personally, I didn’t really like or enjoy this poem. I think my dislike is because I can’t really relate to the topic of the poem.

Book Review of Goddess of Yesterday

Ever wish you could be someone else? Well it is not that great as anaxandra(an-ex-andra) in The Goddess of Yesterday by Caroline B. Cooney finds out. When lying about who she is turns into a life or death struggle she is going to have to do to keep her loved ones alive.

Anaxandra(“not alexandra a lot of people get it wrong” as it says in the book) is very young when she is taken away from her family and the small island that has no name that they live on. The king that has taken her wants to keep her as a companion to his daughter that is paralyzed from the waist down. A few years later her new home is attacked and she is the only one to survive. A few days later another king finds her by herself on the island and she lies about who she is.When the king takes her back Anaxandra meets Helen.  Helen is the most beautiful woman and when a prince from Troy ,Paris, falls in love with her she goes with him when the king is away.Taking Anaxandra with her by accident and given the responsibility to take care of Helens youngest child Pleis, who she loves like a younger brother. When the king comes to Troy to bring Helen back a war starts , and Helen starts trying to get rid of Anaxandra even if it means her death.

My favorite part of the book was when Paris tried to kill  Pleis with quicksilver ,and Anaxandra saves him (like any heroine would) from being poisoned. She risks her own life because she loves him and I would risk my life for my loved ones.Even if it meant my own defeat.

I would recommend this book for seventh and eighth graders, for both boys and girls. I really loved this book.I would rate it 99 on a scale from 1-100.

The Accidental Movie Star

Ever feel like no one cares about you? In the Accidental Movie Star by Emily Evans, a girl named Ashley Herrington has a lot of those moments while experiencing the chance of a lifetime.

Ashley Herrington  gets a chance of a lifetime to work at a movie studio because of her dad. At the beginning  it states, ”Dad didn’t show up,” (she’s at the airport) and  as the book progresses you get a feeling as if she thinks people don’t care about her, except her best friend (Marissa) and her mom.

During the story she meets another main character ,a superstar name Caspian (Caz). They don’t exactly hit it off ,but quickly become friends. Also, she becomes part of the movie because she was told by the director to get in front of the camera and teaches Caz a thing or two. I can relate to this book because I sometimes feel as if no one cares. I think everyone does.

I loved this book ,and recommend it for teenagers who like a tad bit of romance, mostly for girls.
